You might have heard us bragging about our awesome new hair stylist, Kaylee.
Kaylee has now done several shoots with us and we thought it was time you met her.
Where are you from?
I'm from Half Moon Bay, California, a small beach town twenty minutes south of San Francisco.
What made you want to start doing hair?
I've always dabbled in the arts, and I consider styling hair an art form. I started the typical way, styling hair for friends and family, which really developed my skills and broadened my take on hairstyling to a fulfilling career.
Helping people achieve their best possible look is something I can go home from at the end of the day and be proud of.
How long have you been doing hair?
I've been the official Barbie hairstylist since 1989.
What do you like to do when you're not doing hair?
Like I said, the arts are very important to me. I read, draw, and play piano and guitar. I appreciate my solitude and creative space, though time with family is always a priority.
What is your must-have hair product?
I prefer to keep it minimal with products. I do almost always use a root booster and hairspray for every style, but too much hairspray can keep hair from falling naturally and make it look stiff.
With the right tools and brushes, most styles can be achieved without half a can of hairspray and a tub of wax. At the end of a styling, a good silkening mist will smooth fly-aways and really give hair a perfect shine for the camera.
What is your favorite part about doing hair for Under the Garter?
Under the Garter is great to work for! To be part of the process of taking women from their everyday lives to a state of confidence that most of us don't get to walk with every day is so rewarding.
This company gives women back to themselves. One of the most common things I hear from clients is that they wish they could "feel like this every day".
The set, the pampering, the glamour of it all is very special to be a part of. I feel lucky that I get to be there for it all.
